“Well, Guess What?” We’re Millionaires!
Retired Educator Wins $1 Million with 300X Scratcher During Lottery Week
WASHINGTON, DC – Just in time for Lottery Week, the DC Lottery has announced that a retired educator has won the first $1,000,000 top prize with the $30 300X scratcher. The DC man known as “Commanders Fan,” purchased his winning ticket at Tenley Market, 4326 Wisconsin Avenue, NW.
The winner claimed his prize with his wife, a retired pastry chef for The White House, at his side. The pair are self-described history buffs and have a fanciful European excursion in the works. “We’ll celebrate 53 years of marriage later this year. This is a nice way to do it,” said the winner.
“I was sitting in the kitchen scratching the ticket and yelled, “Well, guess what?” to my wife, who was upstairs. I took it up to show her. “We got out the magnifying glass to be sure,” said the octogenarian who still enjoys yard work. The two then decided to call the DC Lottery to confirm their suspicions.
The winner said he was inspired to play the 300X game after winning $100 with the $50 Extreme 500X Fortune scratcher. He also won $5,000 with the Lucky for Life jackpot game.
“We couldn’t be more excited to congratulate the first top prize winner for the 300X instant ticket game,” said DC Lottery Executive Director Randy Burnside. “There are plenty of cash prizes remaining on this scratcher including another $1,000,000 top prize. We look forward to making more millionaires at the DC Lottery,” Burnside continued.
A popular neighborhood hub, Tenley Market has a history of selling lottery tickets that send players to the DC Lottery’s winners’ circle including a $1 million Powerball ticket; a $1 million top prize with the DC Black II scratcher; and a $250,000 A Year for Life prize with the Lucky for Life national jackpot game.
Lottery Week is an annual public awareness campaign that highlights the many ways DC Lottery contributes to the vibrant culture and economy of the District of Columbia. From July 14 to 18, Lottery Week in the nation's capital features exclusive contests, citywide events, and a special one-day Mega Millions promotion. During the festivities, Executive Director Randy Burnside stopped by Tenley Market to personally congratulate store owner Lucy Park on the sale of another million dollar-winning ticket. Also, this week Players’ Club members can score tickets to watch the Washington Mystics take on the Indiana Fever in September.
